Ideal Weight Calculator
No single number is “ideal”. We show four historic formulas and the weight range for a healthy BMI so you can see the spread.
How it works
Each formula starts from a base weight at 5 feet (152.4 cm) and adds a fixed amount for every inch above. Devine: 50 kg (men) or 45.5 kg (women) + 2.3 kg per inch. Robinson: 52 / 49 kg + 1.9 / 1.7 kg. Miller: 56.2 / 53.1 kg + 1.41 / 1.36 kg. Hamwi: 48 / 45.4 kg + 2.7 / 2.2 kg.
Formulas were designed for a different population and for adults over 5 feet, so use the BMI range as your main guide.
Frequently asked questions
Why do the formulas disagree?
They came from different studies and decades. A range is more honest than a single value.
Is a lower weight always better?
No. Muscle, bone density and energy levels matter as much as the scale.
What if I am under 5 feet?
The formulas extrapolate; rely on the BMI range and your doctor’s advice.
